Localization Process

Product and file analysis
The product targeted for localization is evaluated and analyzed to determine its translation, graphic, and engineering requirements. Source material is processed with translation memory tools. Based on this analysis, the client is provided with a complete proposal outlining budget, resources, and a task-driven schedule.

Pre-production
Once the proposal has been agreed upon and approved and the client has sent the project files, the project manager begins the process of orienting the teams, reviewing reference materials, and assembling tools. Translation kits are prepared.

Glossary development
Before translation can begin, the source text is reviewed to identify product and domain-specific terms. Terminologists will research and translate these terms based on in-country industry references. The bilingual glossary is submitted to the client for geo review and finalization.

Translation
Translation kits and approved glossary are dissiminated to translation teams. Upon completion, the translation is copy-edited and proofread by a second professional linguist. Before forwarding the translated files to production teams, the files undergo a review using PTIGlobal’s quality protocols and checklists.

Localization engineering
Upon receiving translated files, the localization engineers and graphic specialists redesign and re-engineer the product. This may include resizing dialog boxes, compiling the help, functional validation, cultural adaptation, localizing illustrations, and capturing screens of the localized user interface for placement in on-line documentation.

Testing
While the product is being localized, a comprehensive test script is developed based on the source product. The localized product undergoes in-depth localization functional, user interface, and linguistic testing on a local OS for each target market. Upon completion of testing and bug fixing, the project manager submits the localized product to the client for review. Final changes are implemented and verified.
