PTI Global

Translation Services

Even when worldwide businesses are quite proficient in English, they prefer to buy in their own languages. In a survey conducted by Common Sense Advisory, nearly all respondents said they were more likely to buy products with translated product information and localized interfaces.

PTIGlobal excels at professional, high-quality translation and document management. We’re guided by this basic principle:

A translated product or publication must accurately reflect the content and meaning of the source material and read as though it were originally written in the target language.

Teamwork Development

PTIGlobal’s Resource Management Department is devoted exclusively to developing and qualifying external vendors. Our challenge is to identify the "sweet spot," so that we can present our customers with competitive pricing without sacrificing the quality we are known for.

The Resource Management Department has developed a thorough qualification process, including an editor feedback loop and overall rating. It covers such important aspects as: dominant language; demonstrable experience; tool skills rating; methodology; education or work experience in a technical domain. This is why PTIGlobal is able to ensure the quality of complex translation projects. Here are some other advantages:

  • Our project managers have years of experience handling large projects involving many languages
  • Our technical translators are used to working with us on cross-language translation teams
  • PTIGlobal has cultivated expert translators located worldwide
  • Our independent editing teams are flexible and skilled in their domains.
  • Primary translators review all editorial changes for constant improvement
  • Our in-house quality assurance protocols deliver a consistently excellent product.

Most importantly:

  • We stand behind our work. If you are not satisfied with your translations in any way, we will resolve legitimate issues at our expense. We take this responsibility seriously.

Terminology Management

As new products are developed and new terms introduced, we strongly suggest that our dependable terminology management system be an essential part of every project.

Why?

The relationship between two languages is not 1:1. There may be several ways to name something--including the wrong way--in another language, just as there may be only one way to name something that English has several ways of expressing.

In order not to confuse the consumer of your product or application, what you name things in various languages needs to be decided on and remain constant through product cycles and across product lines.

If different translation companies work on your product descriptions or applications, if multiple translators work on your content, if your company already has a preferred way of describing products or processes in a foreign language, or no established way at all—you need to codify and standardize these foreign-language terms and phrases so that both you and your current localization team always use the same terms to refer to the same things. Translators do not automatically know these terms unless they are given an approved list developed by us in conjunction with you or your in-country partners.

Our system includes the following attributes:

  • Creation of product term lists and glossaries
  • Terminology database development
  • Database automates term choices by linguists
  • Online query system for linguists working with new product terminology
  • Terminology updates and database maintenance

The result?

Accurate and consistent translation products and no confusion on the part of users. This translates into a favorable image for your brand and improved market position abroad.

Translation Style Guide

What exactly is a Translation Style Guide? It is a language-specific reference manual, either many pages long or quite short, which sets standards for how terms should always be translated or how your company-specific names or products should be presented in any given language. Style Guides can also dictate how certain documents, such as annual reports or labels for packaging, should be formatted so that those specifications are clear to all parties involved in their production.

PTIGlobal encourages your company to develop a Translation Style Guide for use in the localization of your assets. We can consult with you to discuss your localization needs, your source materials, target audiences and markets, etc. The Translation Style Guide is then developed by PTIGlobal as a product of this initial consultation.

A detailed Translation Style Guide is a powerful tool that establishes rules and offers examples for setting the proper style and tone for translations, as well as specifying which terms should not be translated. Building a consistent and recognizable brand identity is important in penetrating and holding foreign markets and development of a translation style guide can be an effective tool for meeting these major objectives.

The Translation Style Guide provides linguists with your preferences for managing the following aspects of localized material:

  • Tone and writing style
  • Abbreviations and acronyms
  • Addresses, mailing address, phone numbers, fax numbers
  • Proper nouns and/or company names
  • Trademarks and brand names
  • Abbreviation of company name
  • Numerals
  • Dates and times
  • Punctuation marks
  • Units of measure
  • Dashes
  • Legal documents and phrases
  • Tag lines
  • Typefaces (Desktop Publishing)
  • Plus dozens of other style issues specific to the target culture

In-Country Review:

Often only you, the customer, have the most complete domain knowledge of your specific products. We view this input by your-in-country staff as a valuable collaboration between our experts in language with understanding of your domain, and your experts in your specific products. This collaboration nets a more accurate result than either party could achieve by working alone.
