In response to the post-election unrest in Iran, several online communities are pushing development of Persian support on their services. Google and Facebook followed Twitter in adding Persian (Farsi) support. Franz Och, a principal scientist at Google said on his blog, “We feel that launching Persian is particularly important now, given ongoing events in Iran. Like YouTube and other services, Google Translate is one more tool that Persian speakers can use to communicate directly to the world, and vice versa.”
