What does “expertise” mean?

Your project usually begins with the work of a translator and editor. To state the obvious, neither translating software nor translators know everything about every subject. But linguists do develop specialties the more they translate in a particular subject. PTIGlobal's resource coordinators select translation teams based on their experience or academic background in a subject matter that matches that of the project content.

These experienced linguists also know how and where to do their research, whether that means consulting their own extensive libraries, digging into research and white papers on the internet, browsing a customer’s international site for usage of domain terminology, or consulting the term list that accompanies their assignment. Once they understand how the application works or what the entire document is trying to say, they can begin the process of re-expressing it in their native language.
